The Secret World of Prikosnovénie

Once upon a time...

Prikosnovénie associative label was born in Nantes, in 1990, out of the encounter of two cinema students: Frédéric Chaplain, fond of sound, and Sabine Adélaïde, experienced photographer. The word Prikosnovénie means “light touch” in Russian and aims at promoting inventive music combined with elaborate-exquisite aesthetics. Prikosnovénie is rooted in the then flourishing alternative movement New-Wave. Prikosnovénie could define itself as half-way between the Visa label (for its independent militarism) and the 4AD English label for its enigmatic estheticism.

Be sure to sample some of the label's featured artists via their podcast player-- upper LH corner, lower lights, inhale... hold.... exhale... enjoy.

NASA - Phoenix Mars Lander Images

This view of a portion of the spacecraft deck and one of the footpads of NASA's three-legged Phoenix Mars Lander shows a solid surface at the spacecraft's landing site. As the legs touched down on the surface of Mars, they kicked up some loose material on top of the footpad, but overall, the surface is unperturbed.

Each footpad is about the size of a large dinner plate, measuring 11.5 inches from rim to rim. The base of the footpad is shaped like the bottom of a shallow bowl to provide stability.

This image was taken by the Phoenix spacecraft's Surface Stereo Imager shortly after landing on Mars.

MizPee

MizPee is actually a service which lists closest and cleanest toilets, so you don’t have to waste painful moments looking for one yourself.

I started out thinking I had something to say about this, but when I open my mouth to speak (or fingers to type, in this case), all that comes out is a very dry, long, dehydrated sigh... (link via Popgadget)

Most amazing disk data recovery ever

It was one of the most iconic and heart-stopping movie images of 2003: the Columbia Space Shuttle ignited, burning and crashing to earth in fragments.

Now, amazingly, data from a hard drive recovered from the fragments has been used to complete a physics experiment - CXV-2 - that took place on the doomed Shuttle mission.

Exposing the latest BS...

The good folks I work for here at the NCSE have put together a marvelous resource that helps explain the "truth behind the fiction" in the newly-released movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, starring Ben Stein.

"... a detailed look at the Ben Stein movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. We'll show you why this movie is not a documentary at all, but anti-science propaganda aimed at creating the appearance of controversy where there is none..."
